School Closure Make-Up Day ** Update **
As you know, Gwinnett schools were not in session on Monday, Sept. 21 and 22 due to the floods that struck the Atlanta area. The next flood day will be made up using the second designated make-up day: March 15. Students and staff will be in session on that day.

GCPS added another new make-up snow day to the school calendar: April 2.
Traditionally, the district designates at least three days for days missed to wintry weather. Gwinnett County Public Schools amended its 2009-10 school calendar to include Fri., April 2 as a snow make-up day. April 2 will be snow make-up day #2, and May 27 will remain as snow make-up day #3. If the district does not need to use these days as make-up days, they will be holidays for students and staff.

Odyssey of the Mind (OM) at GES

Would you like for your child to take part in a creative problem-solving program? Grayson Elementary offers a stimulating program that meets this need called Odyssey of the Mind. This is our 7th year to offer Odyssey of the Mind as an extra-curricular club.

One of the major features that attracted our school to this program is that it is entirely “kid done.” The students have to think of solutions and create and design using ONLY their own ideas and skills. The coach is only a facilitator – supervising, finding materials and guiding the kids in their problem solving. Anything you see at an Odyssey presentation is done by the students – from writing the script for a play, to building a contraption, to making a costume and designing the props!

Odyssey is also a PARENT PARTICIPATION event! If we are going to continue this program, we will need parent coaches and volunteers for the teams - this is a great way to be involved with your child in a fun-filled, educational experience!

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, decisions on school closings are made before 6 a.m. School closings are announced on the GCPS Website, GCPS TV, and local area news media (TV and Radio). The GCPS website and GCPS TV posts in English, Spanish, Bosnian, Vietnamese, and Korean. If students are in school when weather conditions become difficult during the school day (which would necessitate an early dismissal), the public would be notified through local radio and TV stations.
